Canary Wharf Retail
Developer: Canary Wharf
Mangement Contractor: Canary Wharf Construction
Consultant: Ove Arup
DS8 and RT3 represent the extension of the retail area at Canary Wharf. The second phase of retail opened in March 2002 and has proven so successful with many well known high street retailers that they have readily taken up bigger units in this new phase. The Cylon "Unitron" B.M.S. installed in RT2 will be extended to be included in the base build of DS8, the large new unit accommodating WAITROSE on the first 3 levels and a new REEBOK sports center on the upper levels with restaurants on the roof. The RT3 extension stretches over to the new Heron Quays development and incorporates a 100metre trunk tunnel to allow access to the new units. Two Winter Garden spaces allow a variety of activities ranging from an area where people can site and relax to staging concert functions.
The whole area is controlled and monitored from the central Canary Wharf retail manager's office. From this central point the retail manager can respond to any changes in the conditions of the environment and act accordingly. Many of the retail units are sensitive to climate conditions within their units due to the nature of their business. Business activities such as the preparation of fresh food and the storage of fresh flowers make it critical that the environmental conditions are maintained. Eton's service division work along side Canary Wharf Facilities Management Team to keep the system in top working order.
